BLACK SABBATH Guitarist Says It's A 'Shame' The Band Didn't Complete New Studio Album
July 23, 2004BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi recently spoke to the Rocky Mountain News about the aborted sessions for a new SABBATH studio album, which took place a few years ago with produced Rick Rubin. "It just came to an end, really," Iommi said. "We didn't go any further, and it's a shame because they were really good.
"It's quite different recording now," Tony continued. "We've all done so much in between. In those days there was no mobile phone ringing every five seconds. When we first started, we had nothing. We all worked for the same thing. Now everybody has done so many other things. It's great fun and we all have a good chat, but it's just different, trying to put an album together."
With regards to whether the personal differences that existed between bandmembers years ago still rear their ugly heads once in a while, Iommi said, "We've known each other so long and we've gone through so much stuff together that it seems pointless to argue and fight over things, really. When we were young, yes, we were all highly strung, you had egos, you wanna do this. Now it's great to walk onstage together and just play without all those egos that used to stop it. Back in the '70s, we had so many problems with lawyers and people involved. Nowadays we've got no arguments; we just walk on and enjoy ourselves."
